I have a comprehensive command of American musicals.
I feel like I should update or something. The problem is that my life has been so spectacularly boring this week that there doesn't seem to be much point in passing the boredom on to you. Ah well, sucks to be you.
Exhibit A: The highlight of my weekend was this mix I created on iTunes called "Showstoppers." It's a collection of all my favorite showtunes of the musicals I have loaded onto my computer, the songs that send shivers up my spine, make me unable to stop singing, or make me burst into tears. The mix, hilariously, is almost four hours long, and I still have at least a half-dozen musicals or so that I've never gotten around to uploading. Current showtune: "Prayer" from The Scarlett Pimpernel.
In news in the category of Boring, I've gotten some good progress done on my Animal Law paper, both in writing and in mentally plotting out where the paper is going in the remaining 12 or so pages I still have to write in the next month. I've also been obsessed with reading about the writer's strike all week. Seriously, talk to me for ten minutes and I'll find some way to bring it up. This is what happens with a person as obsessed with television as I am is faced with the terrifying possibility of shows ending the season with a dozen or less episodes, and those shows then being canceled as a result. Unfortunately, this appears to be what is going to happen. To put my own thoughts briefly -- I'm on the writers' side in theory, but I think both sides have dissolved into extremely childish and ridiculous behavior and both sides should suck it up, start negotiating, and go back to entertaining me. Not the rest of the you -- just me personally. Current showtune: "Elephant Love Medley" from Moulin Rouge.
I received my first bridesmaid dress in the mail for
pinktutu911's wedding, no longer a secret and going to take place next August (thank goodness, post-bar exam!). The dress is wonderful and fits perfectly and I am a little in love with it, making me wish it were appropriate to just wear it around the house and to run errands in and stuff. Current showtune: "Popular" from Wicked.
In more awesome news, I officially FINISHED my Christmas shopping today. Yes, you heard me correctly. I decided early on this fall that I was not going to fall prey to my usual method of leaving it until it coincided with finals and I'm too stressed to do anything but buy everyone books, CDs, and DVDs from Amazon. This year I've made a concerted effort to come up with more unique gifts -- although in the end, this has turned out to mean that I am making homemade gifts for like 5 of the people I bought gifts for. The catch I made for myself is that I can only work on them when I am already in front of the TV so that it doesn't cut in on my very real end-of-semester mountain of schoolwork. Current showtune: "Home" from Beauty and the Beast.
I attempted to go on a diet for about four days last week. I failed spectacularly, as I always do. I guess those few pounds I gained during my summer running injury will just have to hang around until I start training again in January. I don't really "diet" when I diet anyway -- I just try to eat smaller amounts of the same unhealthy-ish food I generally eat. I don't think it can count as a diet when you still have ice cream every evening for dessert, and includes lunch at In'n'Out on Friday when I woke up feeling particularly thin. No matter -- I think I'm over this brief dieting phase for now. Current showtune: "Say It Somehow" from The Light in the Piazza.
I think that's about it for now. Less than three weeks of school until finals begin. I need a drink. Current showtune: "Seize the Day" from Newsies.
